The purpose of this training course is to provide youth with the tools to influence their home environment, to better our communities, and to empower youth to act to make their neighborhoods a better place for them and their families to live. Our children deserve to have a society were they can live up to their potentials. This is only done by empowering our children to become the future leaders of our communities.
For too long the voices in urban and other impoverished communities have gone unheard. This training course will provide youth with the tools to amplify their voices. This course will help them define their goals, identify resources that have the authority to act on the issues in our neighborhoods, and show them which tools they can use to create a movement for prosocial change in their schools and on their blocks. We will provide the participants with a brief overview of national and local government, and explain the basic functions of city council, mayor, and the police force. All are entities who are paid to work for us.
This course will also educate youth on the concept of Social Capital and how to use it to accomplish positive change in our community. Social Capital is behind many of today’s most successful movements many of which started from people using their Social Capital to gain traction in mainstream society.
